What got you interested in rugby and why did you join the Crusaders?

When I was 12 years old, I went with my family to Ireland. I remember our first night there, sitting in a pub, watching Ireland beat England in a Six Nations match to win the Triple Crown. I knew I had to play. When I found out my high school had a team, I signed up right away. I joined the Crusaders because I was excited to play the sport I love without having to worry about what my teammates think of my sexual orientation.

What position(s) do you play?

Scrum-half and flanker

How long have you played rugby?

I’ve played rugby for four years prior to joining the Crusaders. Fall 2016 is my first season with the Crusaders.

What do you do for a living?

I’m a teller at a credit union.

What's a fun fact about you?

I’ve lived on two continents and visited eight countries.

What's your favorite thing about rugby?

The discipline, sportsmanship, and camaraderie.

Do you have any advice for people who are on the fence about playing?

There’s a reason they call it “the game they play in heaven.” You’ll only find out why when you’re on the pitch.

Overall, how has rugby affected your life?

Rugby has done more for me than I can ever explain. It’s given me the confidence and strength to change, and new friends to support me. I love this sport.
